Grow Birch

DESCRIPTION

Ever wonder where those doctors notes went? If you’ve had a Tetnis shot in the last 10 years? Whether you’ve experienced issues keeping track of your health records or have lost data from changing providers, or never received information because you had to rely on your doctor to input it, Birch is here to help.

WHEN

October 2019 - Current

We constantly have ideas around how to make experiences & processes more seamless, so in 2019 Ashley & Brooke decided to invest their own time to build an app to solve a problem. Fast forward and they are about to launch the pilot, Grow Birch. Grow Birch is an iOS app designed to help people manage, track and document their health and wellness as well as other important things in their life such as your pet, home or car.

We came up with the idea after experiencing our own pain points to managing our wellness across multiple platforms as well as healthcare and insurance providers. If you have ever moved you know tracking things like primary caretakers, previous addresses, or past vets can be a lot to manage, Grow Birch is here to help. The app is powerful in its versatility and playful in its design and interaction.

Our passionate team is comprised of Ashley (Lead UX), Brooke (Visuals), and Derek Corley (iOS Developer & Back-End Engineer)

The Process

Branding & Naming Workshop

Until the 16th century, people wrote on thin layers of birch bark to document important things. In our app, the Birch tree represents health and is intended to make it easier to track and manage important aspects of one’s well being, all in one spot.

User Stories & Feature Prioritization

We interviewed potential end-users to understand current pain points with managing (or the lack there of) information regarding their health. Our hypothesis was confirmed that there was a gap in the market, so we continued talking with people to expand on the product features. This helped us prioritize what features to design and develop for our pilot.

Wireframes

We created wireframes and an Axure prototype to conduct usability testing to make sure the app we were building was usable and solving a problem.

Visual Exploration

Branding and naming this product was a blast. We have iterated on the brand several times based on user feedback and to align with ADA compliance.

Visual Comps

We wanted the app to feel fresh and inviting, unlike a typical healthcare tool may feel. We were worried about breaking some design standards and iOS best practices, so we have been usability testing all along and are going to launch with a group of about 30 people in a pilot before we release the app to the Apple Store. Let us know if you want to be a part of our pilot!
